We
build and
rebuild families...

While most child sponsorship programs around the world focus on the needs of the child, and do so very well, we like to view sponsorship in terms of the whole family.  We work with families to develop an individual sustainability plan for them to work to lift themselves out of poverty.

We connect the hearts
of our sponsors and their child

One of the things that sets Benjamin House Sponsorship apart is that we value meaningful communication between the sponsor and their child.  This heart connection allows you to be able to see your sponsored child grow and develop.  You get to be with them on their journey out of poverty.

HOW DOES SPONSORSHIP WORK?

What all does sponsorship cover?
Sponsorship goes 100% to the child to cover schooling. In Uganda, education isn't a right and is not free.

How long am I asked to commit to sponsoring?
Our prayer is that a sponsor can follow his/her child all the way through the end of secondary (high school). The Sponsor can choose to continue with the child through university or a trade skill, but the sponsorship level increases depending on the child's program.

How long are children in the program?
Children come into the program at various ages (generally 5 years to 16 years old). They stay in the program through the end of secondary school(usually age 19-20). They are then eligible to apply for university sponsorship, but that is rare due to the increased cost.

Does sponsorship only help the child? No! One thing that differentiates our program from others is that sponsorship helps the entire family by allowing our social workers an entry point to connect the family with resources like our parents savings program, job training, and parenting classes. Most importantly it is a chance to share the love of Christ with families. Our goal is to eventually have families able to help match the cost of a child's education, when possible. Any excess funds that a sponsor pays in  those later years will gointo an account for that child that they can use either to join University or to begin a business when they graduate from secondary school.
If my sponsored child is older, and has never had education, what level will they begin at?
That will vary depending on their maturity and knowledge level. They will place into a class, generally a few levels below most peers their age.

Can I visit my sponsored child one day?
Absolutely! We will arrange everything needed for you to make that trip, whether with a team or by yourself. That kind of visit usually changes a child’s life forever.  Click HERE to learn more about trips to Uganda.

Can I send my child gifts?
Yes, and no. If you visit your sponsored child, we encourage you to bring a gift. For birthdays and Christmas, we encourage you to email us a letter/picture for your child, and give additional money that you can designate to exactly what you would like to be bought for them. We then buy it in their region, wrap it, and give it to them with your letter. You’ll receive a picture of them with their gifts. Designating money to a particular gift is the surest way to get maximum benefit for your child.
Can I send letters to my child? How would I get that to them? Family pictures?
Yes we highly encourage communication between you and your child because we believe its an essential part of the sponsorship program. You have two options as far as sending your child letters. The best option is to either hand write or type your letter and then upload it to us and send it via email to [email protected]. The second option is to mail your letter to our US PO BOX (Benjamin House Ministries PO BOX 21, Moore, SC 29369), where our US representative will scan it and email it to us. The best way for your child to receive pictures of your family, is to email them to us at [email protected] and from there we will print them and include them with the letters your child will receive.

Can I send my child money and How would I go about that?
Extra money will be a huge blessing to your child and their family. The best way for that is to go to our website, in the donation page, you will see a section specifically for child sponsorship gifts and just use your child's name in the description or send a check to the PO Box with Gift for child's name in the memo.

Can I send my child clothes?
Keep in mind, packages do not always arrive complete and untampered with. Sometimes they don’t arrive at all. Other times excessive customs fees and taxes are imposed and we can’t afford to get them from the postal service. The best option for this would be to send your child money and the social worker will go out and buy them the most needed clothes. It’s MUCH cheaper to buy clothes here rather than have you send a package full of clothes.  And it supports our local economy to purchase here as well.
