DetailsWhat will we do?
The types of projects will vary greatly depending on the makeup of the team. We like to combine the skills and abilities of team members with our current needs and vision and come up with a custom plan for each team. How will we get to Uganda? You'll fly out of an airport near you (generally within 50 miles of your home if possible) to Uganda. It's very likely you'll meet up with other team members at your last layover before flying out of the country. We'll let you know EXACTLY what to expect. How much will it cost? This year's open mission trip costs $1000 plus airfare. Generally, airfare during August will come in around $1400-$1600. That covers 100% of your in-country expenses except any personal items you might want to buy to go home with. Are there other costs involved? You'll have to pay for any inoculations you get (Yellow Fever vaccination is the only required one, but there are others that are recommended. Check with your health professional and the Centers for Disease Control website so you can make an informed decision. You'll also have to pay for the $50 entry visa fee, and any food you eat at airports during travel. Where will we stay? That depends on the team skills and abilities and the plan we make for the team (which will be communicated before any money is committed by the team members so that they can opt out if they feel it doesn't fit them). But rest assured, you'll be in a safe place and we will do everything we can to make you comfortable (within reason...this is Africa after all). Is there an age limit? We prefer for members of open mission teams to be between the age of 16 and 65 and in relatively good health. Kids ages 14-15 can go, but only if a parent or legal guardian is also on the trip. This doesn't mean we won't consider those younger or older, but those are determined on a case by case basis. |
