Generally teams of 4-6 are ideal. We will accept a team size of up to 15 people, but that many will limit the experience. Teams that are larger than that simply are not able to get a full experience in Uganda and it actually makes our job more difficult instead of making it easier like smaller teams can.
We also are open to individuals coming on their own. Generally we prefer individuals spending this long in Uganda to be at least 18 years of age, preferably 22 or older. Additionally, if your team is looking like it may be more than 15, consider splitting the team into 2 teams that would come on different weeks based on demographic similarities (similar ages, similar job or skills, similar activity levels, etc.).
Cost will vary based on what type of team you bring. For instance, if its a medical team, the project supplies may be more expensive than if you choose ministry in the slums. Running a full children's camp will be more expensive than a light construction trip. In general, though, all in-country expenses including project expenses generally run between $500-$700 US dollars per person, per 10 day period. So, if your team stays for 20 days, you're looking at $1,000-$1,400 of in-country expenses per person. This is inclusive of all in country expenses. It does NOT include airfare, your VISA fee to enter the country ($50) and any pre-trip vaccinations you choose to get. An exact per person cost will be given to you when you complete the preliminary booking form for your trip.
Medium term teams generally stay anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks including travel whereas individuals typically stay between 2 and 12 weeks.
Any time of year is a great time of year to take a trip to Uganda. The weather here is a constant 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit all year long, so even if it is the dead of winter in your hometown, its a nice temperature here. Airfare varies greatly throughout the year; however, generally March/April and Sept/Oct are the cheapest times to travel. Winter is the second cheapest, and summer is the most expensive time to travel. Your specific airfare will depend on the airport you fly out of, the carrier you use, and the flight pattern you choose, but generally it will range between $1100 and $2,000. You can book this, or we can book your tickets for you for a truly all inclusive trip cost.
If you choose an option that includes ministry to children or teenagers, sports, or camp ministry, the IDEAL time would be during the school holidays which occur in January, May, and September. However, there are some ways to work some of these ministry opportunities into the school year as well if that's the only option.
There are many opportunities for ministry here so that regardless of what your gifting is, there is a place you can make an impact. Here's just a sample:
